The police arrested the prime accused, Mizanur Rahman, in connection with the murder of Siddhakathi union parishad member and Juba League leader Ziaul Hasan alias Fuad Kazi early Friday.
The murder took place in Jhalakati district on January 7, the day of the 12th parliamentary elections.
Mizanur, an activist of the ruling Awami League鈥檚 volunteer wing, Bangladesh Awami Swechchhasebak League, was arrested from his relative鈥檚 house in Kusangal village of Nalchity upazila in Jhalakati.
Jhalakati Sadar circle additional superintendent of police Muhitul Islam confirmed the arrest to the media in the afternoon.
Referring to the confession of the arrested, police said that Mizanur Rahman participated in the killing mission under a contract of Tk 4 lakh.
