One person was burnt to death and another went missing after a goods-carrying trawler caught fire in the Buriganga River in Narayanganj鈥檚 Fatullah area on Wednesday afternoon.
Pagla River Police Outpost in-charge Kamal Uddin confirmed the matter and said that the body was charred beyond recognition.
One person went missing in the incident, said fire service control room.
Four firefighter units reached the spot to blaze the fire that broke out at about 1.30pm, said Talha Bin Jasim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
He said that eight units of firefighters brought the blaze under control at about 3:00pm. But the firefighters failed to put out the blaze till 5:40pm, said Kamal Uddin.
The fire officials said that the cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
