
The Railway Police on Wednesday arrested three staff of Bangladesh Railway's catering service allegedly for raping a female passenger in a moving train, Udayan Express, on the Sylhet-Chattogram route in the early hours of the day.
The arrested ones were sent to jail by a court in Chattogram, said railway officials.
Railway authorities suspended the train guard for his negligence.
They also suspended all services of the Ms SA Corporation in two trains where they provide the services.
Railway chief commercial manager (east zone) Md Mahbubur Rahman, quoting Chattogram rail police, said that the train started from Sylhet at 10:00pm on Tuesday and the incident took place at the catering service room at around 4:00am while passing Laksham area.
The woman did not have any ticket, he said.
The police came to know about the incident after the train had reached Chattogram in the morning and they arrested the trio and sent the victim to the one stop crisis centre, Mahbubur said.
'We suspended the train guard as he knew nothing about the incident,' he said, adding that they had suspended the catering service provider company鈥檚 activities on Udayan and Paharika expresses for an indefinite period.
A probe committee will be formed soon, he said and added that the police authorities were taking steps to file a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
