
Liberation War Museum distributed prizes among winners of a book reading competition organising a programme at its auditorium in the capital on Saturday.
The LWM, with the support of Mangaldeep Foundation, launched the second edition of the book reading competition under the title Aly Zaker Liberation War Book Reading Initiative in November, 2023.
Under the supervision of the museum, ten private libraries in the capital executed the competition, which was coordinated by Dania Pathagar chief Sha Nawaz.
The LWM trustee board members, including Asaduzzaman Noor, Sarwar Ali, Mofidul Hoque and Sara Zaker, Aly Zaker’s son Iresh Zaker and coordinator of the competition Sha Nawaz, among others, were present at the prize giving ceremony.
The organisers and dignitaries handed over the prizes to recipients in three categories, including school, college and university. In each category, 10 students received prizes.
Ahsan Habib’s ‘71 Er Rojnamcha’ was selected for the school category, Sheikh Taslima Moon’s ‘Ami Ekti Bajpakhike Hotta Korte Cheyecilam’ for the college category and Mahmudul Haque’s ‘Jibon Amar Bon’ for the university category.
Those books were given to 50 selected libraries across the country and 226 readers’ responses were submitted to the competition in the school category, 163 in the college category and 159 in the university category.
Jatiya Grantha Kendra director Minar Monsur, Dhaka University history department professor Milton Kumar Dev judged the competition.
Each winner received Tk 5,000 worth of books, Tk 5,000 in cash and a certificate. Besides, all participants received certificates.
The first edition of the book reading competition was launched in November in 2022 with the aim to preserve and spread the life and works of Ekushey Padak-winning thespian, actor and late LMW trustee board member Aly Zaker.
