
The University Grants Commission has appointed former vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University Lutful Hasan and Dhaka University biochemistry and molecular biology department professor Zeba Islam Seraj as the ‘UGC Professorship 2023’.
The decision was taken on Sunday at a meeting of the ‘UGC Professorship’ recruitment committee chaired by chairman of the commission (additional duties) Professor Muhammed Alamgir, said a press release issued on Monday.
The UGC member Professor Md Sazzad Hossain, Professor Biswajit Chanda, Professor Hasina Khan, Professor Md Zakir Hossain, vice-chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University Didar-ul-Alam, Pabna Science and Technology University vice-chancellor Hafiza Khatun, Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor Professor Md Nurul Alam, Bangladesh Public Service Commission member Professor Mubina Khondkar, among others, were present at the meeting.
Muhammed Alamgir hoped that the two professors would conduct superior research in smart agriculture, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology and genetics and set unique precedents in practical and basic research in the country.
Lutful Hasan and Zeba Islam Seraj will serve as the ‘UGC Professor’ for the next two years, and their tenure will be counted from the date of joining.
