The police recovered an iPhone 13 from Dhaka鈥檚 Keraniganj area, nearly a year after it was lost in the Beniyapukur area of Kolkata, India.

The phone, belonging to Moutusi Ganguly, was recovered on Sunday following a year-long effort by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed a press release issued by the DMP media wing on Monday.

On June 26, 2023, Moutusi Ganguly鈥檚 mobile phone went missing in the Beniyapukur area. Her daughter, Ashmita Ganguly, subsequently, filed a general diary with the Beniyapukur police station under the South East Division of Kolkata Police.

Using various iPhone tracking technologies, Ashmita, later, discovered that the iPhone was in Bangladesh. Through social media searches, she learned about sub-inspector Milton Kumar Dev Das of Shahjahanpur police station in Dhaka, who is renowned for his expertise in recovering lost mobile phones.

Ashmita submitted a copy of her GD to the Bangladesh high commission in Kolkata and later, reached out to Milton, sharing a soft copy of her GD through WhatsApp and pleading for assistance.

After nearly a year, Milton successfully located the phone using advanced technology.

An investigation into how the phone travelled from Kolkata to Dhaka was underway, according to the DMP press release.
