The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested four people, including a suspected mastermind of shrimp enclosure grabbers and kidnapping group at Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar.

Several locally made guns, bullets and equipment were recovered from the spot on Monday night, said a RAB press release sent on Tuesday.


The arrested are Belal Hossain, 45, his brothers Kamal Ahmed, 42, Abdul Malek, 32, and Nurul Amin, 35, of Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

RAB headquarters director for law and media commander Arafat Islam at a press briefing at midnight said that a team of the RAB conducted an operation on information that some armed people had gathered in the Koralkhali area of ​​Saharbil union of Chakaria upazila with the intention of occupying and looting fish enclosures.

He also said that when the RAB members reached the spot and surrounded the suspected area, eight to 10 people tried to run away after sensing the presence of the members of the RAB.

At that time, four people were arrested, Arafat said.

All those arrested have several cases against them on various charges including robbery, murder and kidnapping.

A case has been filed against them with the Chakaria police station, said the RAB official.
