A female worker died falling from the fourth floor of an under-construction building in the capital鈥檚 Azimpur area on Thursday morning.
The deceased is Khairunessa, 50, a resident of Kalkini upazila in Madaripur.
The incident took place at about 10:30am on the day and the victim was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition where the doctor on duty pronounced her dead at about 11:30pm, according to victim鈥檚 family and witnesses.
Lalbagh police station officer-in-charge Khandaker Mohammad Helal Uddin said that the incident took place while she was working in a government building located behind an orphanage.
鈥楾he process of filing an unnatural death case is underway. We will hand over the body to the victim family,鈥� the OC added.
The deceased鈥檚 nephew, Milon Mia, said that she had fallen from a balcony of the fourth floor of the under-construction building while carrying brick chips.
鈥榃e have taken my aunt to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead,鈥� Milon added.
The victim鈥檚 younger sister, Josna Akter, said that her sister had been working as a mason鈥檚 assistant for several years and she had experience in working multi-storey buildings.
She said that she did not know how she had fallen from the building.
Deceased Khairunessa is a widow and survived by her three daughters.
The DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Bachchu Mia said that the body was kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy.
