
A female worker died falling from the fourth floor of an under-construction building in the capital’s Azimpur area on Thursday morning.
The deceased is Khairunessa, 50, a resident of Kalkini upazila in Madaripur.
The incident took place at about 10:30am on the day and the victim was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition where the doctor on duty pronounced her dead at about 11:30pm, according to victim’s family and witnesses.
Lalbagh police station officer-in-charge Khandaker Mohammad Helal Uddin said that the incident took place while she was working in a government building located behind an orphanage.
‘The process of filing an unnatural death case is underway. We will hand over the body to the victim family,’ the OC added.
The deceased’s nephew, Milon Mia, said that she had fallen from a balcony of the fourth floor of the under-construction building while carrying brick chips.
‘We have taken my aunt to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead,’ Milon added.
The victim’s younger sister, Josna Akter, said that her sister had been working as a mason’s assistant for several years and she had experience in working multi-storey buildings.
She said that she did not know how she had fallen from the building.
Deceased Khairunessa is a widow and survived by her three daughters.
The DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Bachchu Mia said that the body was kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy.
