The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police on Saturday withdrew its Chandrima police station officer-in-charge Mahbub Alam after a video clip of him taking ‘bribe’ in an envelope went viral on social media on Friday night.
‘OC Mahbub Alam has been withdrawn and attached to the RMP headquarters on Saturday due to his unprofessional behaviour,’ said RMP chief information officer and additional deputy police commissioner Md Jamirul Islam.
He said that they decided to investigate the incident and would take necessary actions later following the findings of the probe committee.
Earlier on Friday night, a video clip went viral on social media where Mahbub Alam was seen taking something in an envelope from a person at his office.
In the video clip, the person was heard saying to the OC, ‘Brother, give me the envelope. You know and understand me well. I have come to you because I am in danger.’
Mahbub then smiled and opened the drawer of the table and took out a blank envelope. Pointing at the third person there, Mahbub said, ‘Brother, I give it (the envelope) to him; think carefully. I also helped him earlier.’Â
In response, the third person said, ‘I know, it will work when I come to my brother (Mahbub).’
Later, the second person handed over the filled envelope to the OC.
Mahbub Alam, however, denied the allegation and claimed that he was taking some sensitive pictures and documents from the brother of a victim of sexual harassment.
