A union parishad chairman was shot to death in Munshiganj鈥檚 Tongibari upazila on Sunday, just 15 hours after another UP chairman was shot dead in Khulna.
The deceased were Suman Haldar, chairman of Panchgaon union parishad in Tongibari, and Sharafpur union parishad chairman Sheikh Rabiul Islam Rabi under Dumuria upazila.聽
Dumuria police station officer-in-charge Sukanta Kumar Saha said that Rabiul, who was a member of the upazila unit of Awami League, was shot to death by a group of unidentified miscreants on Saturday night.聽聽
On Sunday, Panchgaon UP charman Suman was shot at around 1:00pm on the premises of Panchgaon Alhajj Wahed Ali Dewan High School.聽
Munshiganj police superintendent Md Aslam Khan said that the UP chairman was killed allegedly over a dispute regarding the election to the school management committee.聽
Three people were arrested in connection with the murder, the police said without disclosing their identities.
According to the witnesses, in the election to the school management committee held on Sunday, the deceased supported winner president Dewan Moniruzzaman. Nur Mohammad, a supporter of another candidate named Milon, became angry at this and shot Sumon and fled the scene.
Sumon passed away at around 2:00pm on his way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
