
Bangladesh Football Federation’s disciplinary committee on Sunday handed Gopalganj Sporting Club a Tk 5 lakh fine for withdrawing their participation from the Bangladesh Premier League 2023-2024.
Gopalganj SC were also relegated to the Bangladesh Championship League – the second-tier football competition of the country – for the coming season.
Gopalganj SC finished third in the previous edition of the BCL, resulting in a promotion to the BPL. However, they withdrew themselves from the competition, citing a financial shortage to form and run a football team.
The club organisers’ confirmed their withdrawal from BPL on October 18, 2023, to the BFF on the final day of the player registration window, which started on August 1, 2023, resulting in the league running with 10-team one less team in the past season.
Besides them, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and Brothers Union have been penalised Tk 1 lakh and Tk 50 thousand, respectively, as their officials and players misbehaved with match officials during their matches of the BFF Under-18 Football League on July 1.
SK Russel’s team manager Iftekhar Rahman Khan and head of delegation Habibur Rahman Khan were suspended for four matches alongside a monetary penalty of Tk 25, 000 each, while their three players – Milon Akand, Saiful Islam and Mir Hossain – were suspended for two matches.
Bothers Union coach Sabbir Ahmed Polash was suspended for one match for using indecent language and chasing the match referee during their match against Abahani Limited.
