A 70-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a battery-run auto-rickshaw at the Sector 12 in the capital鈥檚 Uttara area on Sunday.
The deceased, Nurjahan Begum, had fallen under the wheel of the auto-rickshaw while crossing a road near Khalpar under the sector.
The auto-rickshaw driver Md Nurnabi claimed that he had taken the severely injured woman to a local hospital, and they shifted her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared her dead at about 2:00pm.
鈥楾he woman came in front of my rickshaw suddenly,鈥� he added.
The DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Bacchu Mia said that the rickshaw driver was detained at the police outpost for interrogation.
鈥榃e have informed the matter to Uttara West police station,鈥� he added.
