Experienced and skilled professors from renowned universities would be engaged in new and remote universities to address the shortage of professors and ensure quality education, officials from the University Grants Commission announced on Monday.

A ‘Professor Resource Pool’ would be formed under the blended learning method for all public and private universities, as stated at a workshop held at the UGC Bhaban in Dhaka.


The workshop aimed to prepare an action plan for implementing blended learning in higher education at the national level, according to a press release issued by the commission.

The commission had already drafted blended learning guidelines, which combine in-person and online learning systems to make education more participatory and active.

UGC chairman (additional duty) professor Muhammed Alamgir emphasised that quality education could not be ensured in new and remote universities due to a lack of professors and skilled teachers.

He continued, stating that an initiative would be taken to form a resource pool with skilled professors under the blended learning method to address these deficiencies.

Expressing frustration over the poor implementation of various guidelines on higher education, professor Alamgir urged all universities—public and private—to adopt the blended learning method.

While chairing the workshop, UGC member professor Haseena Khan mentioned that the draft action plan on blended learning would be finalised by the end of the year.

She noted that blended learning would make education more participatory, enabling students to face future challenges.

The professor also emphasised the need for teacher training and the establishment of information and communication technology infrastructure to implement the new method.

During the workshop, Dhaka University’s institute of information technology professor Kazi Muheymin-Us-Sakib presented the action plan on blended learning.

Bangladesh Research and Education Network chief executive officer Mohammad Tawrit presented a paper titled ‘Blended Learning Roadmap: Cost Modelling and Estimation’.

Vice-chancellors and other representatives from 31 public and private universities in Dhaka and its adjacent areas attended the workshop.
