After a substandard performance in the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup held in the West Indies and USA, Bangladeshi cricketers have failed to find their forms playing in franchise leagues.
Five players from the World Cup squad – Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, and Taskin Ahmed – are currently playing in franchise leagues.
Four of those five players are playing in the Lanka Premier League, while Shakib is playing in the Major League Cricket in the USA.
Shakib, playing for Los Angeles Knight Riders, hasn’t found his touch with the ball in hand but has managed to find some runs, scoring 53 runs in two matches.
Towhid and Mustafiz are both playing for Dambulla Sixers in LPL.
Towhid scored just one in his first game before not getting a chance to bat in his second, and since then, has been on the bench.
Mustafiz has picked up five wickets in four matches but has been quite expensive as he has gone for 11.06 runs per over.
In his first match, Fizz took one wicket giving away 44 runs in three overs. He came back well in the second game, taking two wickets for 30 runs.
In the next match, he once again picked up a couple of wickets but this time went for 39 runs.
The most recent match saw him being very costly for the team as he gave away 53 runs in four overs.
Bangladesh vice-captain Taskin, playing for Colombo Strikers, has also been struggling to find a consistent run of form.
In his first game, he picked up a wicket giving away 30 runs but went for more in the second as he conceded 45 runs, although alongside two wickets.
Shoriful, who failed to get a match in the T20 World Cup, started well for Kandy Falcons picking up four wickets in his first two games but had a horrid outing in the third as he conceded 47 runs in his three overs on Tuesday.
