Bangladesh pacer Jahanara Alam made his return to the national team after more than a year as she was picked up in the squad for the forthcoming women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, starting on July 19.

The pacer, who has 105 wickets in international cricket, player her last international match in Colombo against Sri Lanka in May last year, where she went wicketless in four overs, conceding 44 runs.

However, a brilliant Women’s Dhaka Premier League campaign from Jahanara – where she picked up 25 wickets in nine matches for Abahani Limited – saw her returning to the team.

‘I have always tried to keep myself ready during this one year period so that whenever the team needs me, I’m prepared. I have done well in the last WDPL. It is a very good feeling that I can represent Bangladesh again,’ she said.

Jahanara, part of the Asia Cup-winning squad in 2018, suffered a bitter journey with Bangladesh in the next edition at home as they crashed out of the group stages as defending champions.

Thus, she wants to wipe those memories and create new ones similar to 2018.

‘Our first goal in the Asia Cup is to play the semis. If we can be group champions and reach the semis, then we will get Pakistan, which might be easier for us. We will try for that,’ the pacer said.

‘So, the first match will be important. We will try to bring home good memories like we did in 2018.’

Bangladesh will begin their Asia Cup against hosts Sri Lanka on July 20 before their game against Thailand on July 22. Their final group stage game will be against Malaysia on July 24. All three matches will be played at Dambulla.
