The High Court has recommended that 10 miles of land from the border be declared as the estate of the Border Guard Bangladesh.
The single-member bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal recommended it in its four recommendations made to the parliament in a full verdict published in the past week.
The court came up with the recommendations after acquitting one Zakir Hossain of smuggling charge.
Zakir was jailed for three years by the lower court after he had been arrested with the Indian saris in Indian boarder in Jashore in 1987.
The three other recommendations include allocation of same quantity of government land in favour of the victims, whose land would be required to be declared as BGB land, cleansing 8 miles of land from the borders so that BGB can oversee the boarder points and 8–10 miles of the BGB land should be reserved for constructing BGB structures, their training and other purposes.
The court asked the Supreme Court registrar general to send the copy of the verdict to the parliament, the border guard headquarters and the home ministry.
