Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on Tuesday announced a two-day programme to protest against Monday’s attack on quota protesters by Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League.
Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib announced the programme at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office, saying that though his organisation would not hold any programme for the quota reform in civil service its activists would take position with quota protesters from Tuesday.
He said that Chhatra Dal units would hold processions across the country on Wednesday and on the campuses of all universities and colleges across the country on Thursday.
Following the press conference, the student organisation’s leaders and activists brought out a procession in Naya Paltan area, protesting at Monday’s
BCL attacks on general students on the campuses of Dhaka University and other higher educational institutions.
‘The illegal government has unlawfully held onto power for the past 15 years, during which the Chhatra League has established its dominion over Bangladesh’s educational institutions,’ Rakib said.
He further accused the BCL of playing the role of razakar supporting all the injustice and atrocities of the state.
‘Terrorist activities perpetrated by the Chhatra League disrupted the healthy political environment in educational institutions and severely affected educational activities,’ he added.
Recalling the Monday’s attacks by the Chhatra League, he said that it would be remembered as a dark night in the history of Bangladesh.
Expressing solidarity with the general students involved in the movement, Rakib assured that the Chhatra Dal would always be in the field fighting for the abolition of the quota system.
