Quota protesters are scheduled to hold gayebana janaza and coffin processions in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country at 2:00pm on Wednesday.

At least six people were killed and scores were injured on Tuesday as students’ protests against the job quota across Bangladesh turned deadly amid attacks by police and ruling party supporters on protesters.

Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of Students Movement Against Discrimination, made the announcement through a video message in the wee hours of Wednesday.

‘We will hold the gayebana janaza in front of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus at 2:00 pm. Later, we will bring out a coffin procession,’ he said.

Nahid urged all students to hold the same programmes on their university campuses and all districts across the country.

‘The government is trying to suppress the movement through violence,’ said Nahid, who also alleged that law enforcement agencies were raiding protesters’ houses and internet connections were shut down in all universities.
