Bangladesh鈥檚 first international gold medal-winning shooter Ateequr Rahman breathed his last at the Suhrawardy Medical College at around 10:00am on Wednesday.

He was 59.


Ateequr had been suffering from throat cancer for a long time. He left behind his wife, two children, and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.

The gold medal winner in the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand fell sick on Tuesday night.听

Ateequr had won gold in the 10-metre air pistol pairs event and bronze in the free pistol pairs event, both partnering with Abdus Sattar.

Ateequr鈥檚 s namaz-e-janaza was held at the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation complex at 3:00pm. Later, he was buried in Chattogram.

Bangladesh Olympic Association expressed their deep condolence at the death of Ateequr.
