The president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, a partner of Ganatantra Mancha, ASM Abdur Rob, on Wednesday, said that the ruling Awami League was leading the country towards civil war by not fulfilling the justified demands of the quota protesters.
Rob, an eminent organiser of the War of Independence, in a press statement, said that the Awami League government and Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party, had chosen to suppress justified movements of the students and killed six persons across the country on Tuesday.
He called on the guardians and people to take to the streets to support the students' movement and to save students from political repression.
In the past, students of the country played prominent roles in all movements and never bowed their heads to the autocratic governments in 1969 and the War of Independence of 1971, Rob said.
Awami League government remained in power without the people's mandate for a long time, he added.
Rob called on the Awami League government to fulfil the demands of the students and resign from power immediately restoring the voting rights of the people.
