
Six cases were filed on Wednesday, in connection with Tuesday’s clashes during the students’ protest demanding quota reform in government jobs in Chattogram and Dhaka.
The clashes left at least six people dead and scores injured.
Four of the six cases were lodged in Chattogram and two in Dhaka.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Chattogram reported that four cases were filed with Panchalish and Khulshi police stations in the port city in connection with clashes over quota protests.
Santosh Chakma, office-in-charge of Panchalish Police Station confirmed the news and told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that 88 people were arrested so far.
‘We conducted the drive and arrested those who might have involvement in quota protest,’ he said.
Meanwhile, two cases were filed over the clashes at the Science Laboratory crossing which killed two people- Sabuj Ali, a Dhaka College student and reportedly a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist, and Shahjahan, a hawker.
New Market Police Station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam confirmed the news and said that unlimited individuals have been accused in the cases filed by Sabuj’s brother Nur Nabi and Shahjahan’s mother Ayesha Begum.
‘No one has been arrested so far,’ added the police official.
On Tuesday, at least six people were killed and scores were injured as students’ protests against the job quota across Bangladesh turned deadly amid attacks by police and ruling party supporters on protesters.
Students from schools and private universities joined public university and college students in the protest on the day, paralysing road and rail communications across the country.
Three deaths were reported in Chattogram, two in Dhaka, and one in Rangpur during daylong violence that also left about 500 injured in different public universities and colleges.
