‘We, the serving and former teachers of the department are calling upon the authorities to ensure the freedom of Rashidul Islam and his security,’ it said.

‘We note with grave concern the large scale arrest and detention of students and common people. We find the news reports of involuntary disappearance of student activists with some being subsequently found abandoned in isolated places with severe bodily wounds distressful,’ the statement read.

‘We also call for immediate release of all students detained for participating in the quota reform movement as they have been merely exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights to freedom of assembly and expression,’ it added.
