President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday appreciated the efficiency and professionalism of Bangladesh Army to normalise the country鈥檚 law and order situation as chief of army staff general Waker-Uz-Zaman called on him at Bangabhaban.

鈥楧uring the meeting, the president was apprised of about the country鈥檚 prevailing situation and their overall activities by the army chief,鈥 president鈥檚 press secretary Md Joynal Abedin said.


The head of the state condemned the destructive activities in various important establishments, including Bangladesh Television and Metrorail.

President Shahabuddin said that the anti-liberation forces were trying to destroy the country鈥檚 development and establishing their narrow political interest through different destructive activities.

He said that the arms forces had been playing important role to protect the country鈥檚 independence and sovereignty.

The army, he said, had achieved confidence of people of the country by serving them during its tough time.

The president thanked the government for taking timely decision of the army deployment to bring normalcy across the country. The overall situation of the country would be normal and run usual activities very soon, he hoped.

During the meeting, the army chief said that 27,000 army personnel had been deployed in 57 districts, including the capital city.

He said that members of the Bangladesh Army were cooperating with the civil administration to maintain the law and order of the country and to ensure the security of the lives and properties.

The Bangladesh Army would be in the field as long as it was needed to normalise the country鈥檚 law and order situation, the army chief added.

Secretaries concerned to the president鈥檚 office were present in the meeting.
