Those responsible for beating three members of the police to death will not be spared, Dhaka Metropolitan Police joint commissioner, operation, Biplab Kumar Sarkar warned Wednesday.

‘Three members of the police were brutally beaten to death. Those who attacked the police won’t be spared. We are determined to bring them to book,’ said Biplab while talking to reporters at the DMP headquarters on Wednesday.


‘In the past few days, BNP-Jamaat and radical forces have carried out nationwide sabotage,’ he said.

General students did not participate in the attacks, the DMP official said.

So far, 154 cases have been filed and 1,380 people have been arrested, the DMP official said.

He added that many people were put on remand and they were giving important information.

Extremists attacked 69 police establishments, a number of traffic boxes were set on fire and attempts were made to torch some police outposts and stations, he said.

When asked about the damages and losses caused by the violence, Biplab said, ‘Our development section is working on it. Equipment worth Tk 8.72 crore were destroyed.’

‘We are collecting footage of places which were attacked as well as videos from numerous sources. Common people are providing us with videos. We are analysing all the data. An operation is under way to arrest the masterminds behind this unthinkable violence,’ the DMP joint commissioner said.
