The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday demanded immediate resignation of the ruling Awami League accepting people’s demands raised during the ongoing student movement.

‘We clearly want to say that the government must stop playing a dirty game. It must ensure a proper environment for education fulfilling the justified demands of students. Besides, the government must also form a people’s government through an impartial election resigning immediately responding to the people’s demands,’ BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a press conference at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office.

He also urged people of the country to stand by the student’s movement creating a national unity.

He said that the adamant and insulting behaviour of the ‘illegal’ prime minister Sheikh Hasina and AL general secretary Obaidul Quader turned the peaceful student movement into violent one.

‘To hide their failures, the illegal government is now blaming the BNP. Pressurising some protesters, the government is now making untrue statements in the media,’ Fakhrul said.

He also said that with an aim to misguide the people, the government started arresting BNP leaders and activists at places.

‘To create an environment of fear, the government has shut down the internet service that has become a reason for huge economic losses of the country,’ he added.
