Murshida Khatun smashed a half-century as Bangladesh women’s team clinched their first win in the ongoing Asia Cup with a seven wicket win over Thailand in Dambulla on Monday.

Batting first, Thailand saw the 20 overs out as they managed to post 96-9, courtesy of a 40-run knock from opener Boochatham.

Leg-spinner Rabeya was the star for Bangladesh with the ball as she picked up four wickets for 14 runs. She took two in her first over, breaking the Thai opening stand, before taking two more – both of which were bowled.

Debutant Sabikun Nahar Jesmin picked up two wickets as well, while Ritu Moni – who picked up a wicket with the first ball of her spell – also picked up two.

In reply, Bangladesh were off to a good start as the powerplay produced 39 runs with Dilara Akter being the dismissed opener as she was run out for 17.

From there, Murshida and Ishma Tanjim guided Bangladesh to the path of victory before Murshida was dismissed for 50 off 54 balls while Ishma made 16.

In the end, it was an easy task for Bangladesh after their crushing defeat to Sri Lanka as they reached the target with 15 balls to spare.

Ritu and Rumana Ahmed stayed unbeaten on nine and five runs respectively.
