Quota protesters Nahid Islam, Abu Bakar Mazumdar and Asif Mahmud were picked up reportedly by different security agencies of the government from the Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Friday afternoon.

Nahid Islam and Abu Bakar Mazumdar are coordinators of Students Movement Against Discrimination and Asif Mahmud is the co-cordinator.

The security agencies also picked up a ward boy from the hospital and seized the phones of Nahid’s mother, wife, Abu Bakar Mazumdar and Asif Mahmud.

Fatema Tuz Zohra, a family friend of Nahid Islam, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that between six and seven people identifying themselves as personnel of several intelligence agencies, including the detective branch of the police picked up Nahid, Asif, Abu Bakar and a ward boy of the hospital at about 3:30pm.

‘Nahid shivered in fear when they wanted to take him away. When I asked them why they were taking him away, they threatened to arrest me alleging that I was involved in the quota movement,’ said Fatema Tuz Zohra, who added that she was afraid something bad would happen to Nahid, who is like a brother to her.

Earlier on midnight past Friday, Asif Mahmud said from the hospital that the DB personnel set up a cordon inside the hospital and members of the police and Border Guard Bangladesh had been deployed around the hospital.

Asked about the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch chief Harun-or-Rashid said that he also heard about it.

‘I will let you know after I confirm the news,’ he added.
