Bangladesh national women’s football team will be looking to seal the FIFA international friendly series against Bhutan when the two sides face off in the second and final match at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu today.

The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm Bangladesh Standard Time.

Bangladesh, who are taking part in the series as part of their preparation for October’s SAFF Women’s Championship in Nepal, thrashed Bhutan 5-1 in the first match on Wednesday, with forward Mst Sagorika slamming a hat-trick on debut.

Ahead of the match, the visitors underwent an hour-long final training session at the match venue on Friday.

Veteran forward and captain Sabina Khatun vowed to rectify the mistakes that they made in the first match, while Sagorika wished to score more goals in the final game.

‘We will try to rectify the silly mistakes that we made in the first game and will try to win the second match as well,’ said Sabina after the training session.

Sagorika said, ‘I want to score more goals in the next game and return home with a series win.’

Though Bangladesh (140) are 33 places ahead of Bhutan (173) in the current FIFA women’s rankings, the visiting team’s English coach, Peter James Butler, believed that the hosts have improved a lot in the past two years.

‘There are no minnows anymore…Over the last two years they [Bhutan] have really come on,’ said Butler, who hinted to bring some changes in the starting eleven in the second game.

‘I won’t change the system, but the personnel will change…We will give quite a few numbers of players to share the workload…The most important thing is that we give game time to the players, who have not played,’ he added.

Sabina also echoed Butler.

‘In the first game, we found a better Bhutan side than we played them in the SAFF [Women’s Championship 2022],’ said Sabina.
