Bangladesh Trade Union Federation in a press release on Friday censured the government of the United Arab Emirates for jailing 57 Bangladeshi expatriates on different terms.
On Monday, the UAE news agency WAM said that three Bangladeshi expatriates were sentenced to life, 53 others to 10 years in prison and one to 11 years for participating in alleged protests.
Protesting the action by the UAE government, the BTUF said that the expatriates were staging a peace protest against the atrocities by the government of Bangladesh to tame the students’ demonstration for quota reform in the government jobs.
The federation also said that the government had endorsed the intimidation by the UAE government on expatriates by overlooking the sensitive issue.
