The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday submitted to the High Court its progress report on the ongoing inquiries into amassing wealth by former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed and members of his family.

The commission in its report found that Benazir, his wife and their two daughters amassed wealth, both movable and immovable, worth around Tk 44 crore beyond known sources of income.


The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth set Monday for hearing of the progress report, commission’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told reporters. The inquiry body headed by its deputy director Hafizul Islam submitted its initial report to the commission on July 1.

On April 22, the High Court asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to report to the court the progress of its probes into the reported amassing of disproportionate amount of assets by Benazir, his wife and their two daughters in two months after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Salah Uddin Regan.
