Mahmudul Hasan Joy – the Bangladesh Cricket Board High-Performance team captain – is known for his ability with the bat but in their second four-day game against Pakistan Shaheens in Darwin, he produced a five-wicket haul with the ball to grab a win for his team.
His bowling exploits saw BCB HP win a thriller by five runs, levelling the series 1-1 after losing the first game.
Joy, the Player of the Match, scored 69 in the first innings to take HP to 258, in reply to which Shaheens could only manage 179 in their first innings as Ripon Mondol took three wickets.
In their second innings, Joy once again hit a fifty, scoring 65, as HP were bowled out for 216 to set Shaheens a target of 296.
Fifties from openers Haseeb Ullah [51] and Sahihzada Farhan [68] gave Shaheens a good opening stand of 96 but three wickets for Joy and three more from Rejaur Rahman Raja saw them reduced to 230-7, putting BCB HP on the driving seat.
However, a 57-run partnership between Muhammad Ali [21] and Khurram Shahzad [28] brought Shaheens within nine runs of victory.
Joy then struck twice in the space of nine deliveries to get both of them, and Hasan Murad dismissed Faisal Akram to ensure that they levelled the series.
