Renowned singer Hassan Abidur Reja Jewel died at the age of 56 in Dhaka on Tuesday.
He is survived by his widow and a daughter.
Lyricist Asif Iqbal told the United News of Bangladesh that he had been battling cancer for many years, and died while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital.聽
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after asr prayers and buried at Banani Graveyard.聽
Born on September 29, 1968, Jewel began his career as an activist of the Shabdawali Theatre in Barishal.聽
In 1993, his first album 鈥楰uasha Prahar鈥� was released. His albums include 鈥楨k Bikele鈥�, 鈥楢mar Achhe Andhakar鈥�, 鈥楨kta Manush鈥�, 鈥楤eshi Kichhu Noy鈥�, 鈥楤edona Shudhui Bedona鈥�, 鈥楧orja Khola Barhi鈥� and 鈥楨mon Keno Holo鈥�.
