Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon in a statement on Wednesday said that indiscriminate firing by the security agencies caused the huge number of deaths and injuries during the student protest for quota reform in the government jobs.
The use of forces to suppress the students’ demands instead of dialogue with the students created the violent situation, according to the BAPA statement signed by its president Professor Nur Mohammad Talukder and general secretary Alamgir Kabir.
The green organisation urged the government to ensure probe and justice for the killings during the student protest.
It also urged the government to ensure compensation for the injured victims and families of those who were killed.
The four-point demands of the BAPA also included reopening the educational institutions and proper political and administrative measures for the distribution of quota according to the verdict of the Supreme Court.
Over 200 people were killed and scores others were injured in violent protest for quota reform in the government jobs.
