Former chief of Bangladesh Army Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan turned his Facebook account ‘Iqbal Karim Ikb’ red on Tuesday night as many people did the same responding to the call of students as part of their ongoing protest.

The Student Movement Against Discrimination platform on Monday urged students and people from all walks of life to take photos in solo or groups, covering their faces and eyes with red cloth, and share those online as the next move of the protests, rejecting a government mourning announcement for Tuesday.

Responding to the call, people from different walks of life, including social media influencers, political leaders, teachers, cultural activists and celebrities, at home and abroad posted red in different format in their social media accounts.

Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan was asked for comment on this over phone but he refused to make any comment.

‘I will not talk to the media in this regard,’ the retired general replied.

The 14th chief of Army Staff, Iqbal was born in Cumilla in 1957 and served as the army chief from 2012 to 2015.

Formerly a student of Faujdarhat Cadet College, Iqbal was commissioned in army in 1976.
