The leaders of the Students Movement against Discrimination on Friday called upon the people to take part in an all-out non-cooperation movement from Sunday protesting at the killings of students and ordinary people during the recent anti-discrimination protest.
They also announced holding countrywide protest rallies to realise their nine-point demand, including an unconditional apology from prime minister Sheikh Hasina accepting liability for the recent killings.
‘We also announce all-out non-cooperation with the government from the day after tomorrow [Sunday]. None will pay tax and go to offices. All government and private offices, including the secretariat will be closed,’ said Abdul Hannan Masud, one of the coordinators of the platform in a video message on Friday night.  Â
He said that no vehicles would be allowed to enter the prime minister’s official residence Ganabhaban and president’s official residence Bangabhaban.
‘We will launch all-out non-cooperation with the government,’ he said.
The protesters made the announcement hours after the police and ruling Awami League and its associate bodies attacked their pre-scheduled prayers and mass processions in Dhaka and other places across the country.
The other demands included the removal of certain ministers from government, sacking of police officials responsible for the killing, and their trial.
In Dhaka on Friday, protesters staged demonstration demanding resignation of the prime minister Sheikh Hasina after accepting the liability for killing students and ordinary people during the July protest.
At least 216 people, including a police member, were killed in violence during the protest.
