Two charred bodies were recovered from the burnt house of Awami League lawmaker Jannat Ara Henry for Sirajganj 2 on Sunday after miscreants had attacked and set fire to the house.
The bodies were recovered at about 10:30pm on the day, said Jewel Hossain, personal assistant of Jannat Ara Henry.
He said that one of the victims was believed to be Shahin Ahamamd, an activist of the Awami League-backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Shahin was a resident of the Janpur area in the town.
The identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately.
Sirajganj Sadar police station officer-in-charge Sirajul Islam, meanwhile, said that unidentified people opened fire on the Enayetpur police station and beat 13 police to death on Sunday.
‘The police were busy with security of other police stations in the whole district,’ he added.
Witnesses said that a group of people torched lawmaker Jannat Ara Henry’s house at about 3:00pm on Sunday.
In Sirajganj, at least 27 people, including 13 police, were killed and many others injured in violence on Sunday, the first day of the non-cooperation movement.
