
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate courts on Tuesday granted bail to more than 2,200 people, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar, in different cases.
Different Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate courts granted bail after hearing bail petitions in the cases, according to lawyers and court officials.
Most of the people who got bail are leaders and activists of the BNP and Jamaat. Many of them came out of jail on Tuesday after their bail orders reached the jail.
Businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun, who has been languishing in jail for over one and a half decades, was among those who got bail.
Other notable persons who got bail include BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, special assistant to BNP chairperson Shamsur Rahman, alias Shimul Biswas, and BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury. Annie, Dhaka city north BNP convener Saiful Alam Nirob, South convener Rafiqul Islam Majnu, BNP publicity secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Dhaka city north member secretary Aminul Haque, Bagerhat district BNP convener MA Salam, 12-party Alliance Coordinator Syed Ehsanul Huda, Bangladesh Jatiya Party chairman Andalib Rahman Partha, and Gana Odhiker Parishad faction president Nurul Haque Nur.
Starting with block raids and other drives, police and other law enforcement agencies arrested over 11,000 people across Bangladesh, mostly leaders and activists of the BNP and Jamaat, between July 15 and early August following the student protests that left nearly 500 people killed.
A number of cases were also filed against thousands of people, including opposition political parties at that time.
Many of those arrested in different districts also secured bail.
抖阴精品 correspondent from Pabna reported that over 200 leaders and activists of various parties, including the BNP and Jamaat, were released on bail in cases filed over violence during the quota reform movement.
Deputy jailor of Pabna district jail, Mehedi Hossain, said that until 6:00pm they received bail papers of 212 people.
