
‘How will I survive with the child, who will now look after him,’ lamented Shanta Maria, the widow of Imran Hosain, who was killed in firing on student protests for government job quota reforms on July 19.
Imran, 33, was a security guard of Charulata Nibash at Gulshan-2 in the capital. He along with his wife and 23-month-old child lived in a rented house at Khilbarirtek area of Gulshan in the capital Dhaka.
Imran is one of the 373 victims killed in violence caused by attacks on protesters during protests against the Sheikh Hasina regime, which students started with protests for public job quota reforms, by the law enforcers backed by Awami League activists between July 16 and August 5.
According to Shanta, Imran had his duty from 8:00am till 8:00pm but he changed the work schedule from 8:00pm to 8:00am as she was feeling ill that day. He asked Shanta to prepare food and went outside to buy medicine for her. He was shot dead in the Shahjadpur Bazar at around 6:00pm.
Hearing the news, Shanta went to the United Hospital and identified his body. Without autopsy the body was taken to his the village house at Kalna in Barishal.
Imran’s father Nazrul Khalifa said that a doctor from the hospital called him about his son on that day.
Imran initially started his business with a grocery store by renting a shop at Shahzadpur Khandkarbari crossing in Dhaka city.
Having made losses in the business, he sold the grocery store and started selling shoes on the street three months ago. He got the job as a security guard on July 3.
Nazrul said that the bullet went through his son’s rib from one side to another side.
‘How much pain he felt!’ the father lamented.
Shanta demanded justice for the killing of her husband.
Local people described Imran as a gentle person from childhood and that it was unimaginable for them to believe how Imran died.Â
Imran was buried at his family graveyard in Kalna, Barishal on July 20.
Gournadi Police Station officer-in-charge Anwar Hosain said that police came to know of his burial at his family graveyard after being shot dead in Dhaka.
