
Resignation of vice-chancellors, teachers, and other officials of different universities continued on Wednesday.
Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor professor Nurul Alam and registrar Abu Hasan resigned from their posts on the day.
All the administrative members of the university fled official residences on the campus after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post on August 5 amid student protests.
On Wednesday, Dhaka City College principal professor Bedar Uddin Ahmed also resigned from his post.
Earlier the vice-chancellor of Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University professor Md Farhad Hossain and five other senior officials resigned from their posts on the night of August 5.
The JU VC Nurul Alam submitted his resignation letter to president Md Sahabuddin,—also the chancellor of the university on Wednesday, citing ‘personal and family reasons’.
‘I was appointed to the post on September 13, 2022 as per your order. I was sincere to do my duty accordingly’, he said.
He could not be reached over the phone despite repeated attempts for his comments.
Earlier on September 13, 2022, JU physics department professor Nurul Alam, who was provisionally appointed as the university vice-chancellor, was reappointed to the post for a four-year term following a VC-panel election.
JU registrar Abu Hasan submitted his resignation letter to the university administration on Wednesday evening citing ‘personal reasons’.
Earlier on Tuesday, professor Alamgir Kabir quit from the posts of JU proctor and provost of the university’s Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall mentioning ‘personal reasons’.
Later, the university administration appointed assistant professor Md Rubel of the management studies department on the day.
At least two teachers of the Dhaka City College, meanwhile, confirmed the resignation of the principal on the day.
Professor Bedar Uddin Ahmed could not be reached over the phone for his comment.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that over 800 sacked officials and employees of National University on Wednesday held a demonstration on the campus in the Boardbazar area in Gazipur demanding re-appointment.
They brought out a protest procession and held rally on the campus.
United News of Bangladesh reported that on August 5 Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University’s proctor professor Md Musa Mia, provost of Bangabandhu Hall professor Nurul Islam, provost of Zahanara Imam hall Nargis Akter, and provost of Sheikh Russel Hall professor Md Idris Ali and deputy director of students welfare advisory centre Foyjun Nahar Meem also resigned.
The resignation letters were received on Tuesday morning, said the university registrar, Touhidul Islam.
