The interim government’s adviser to industries ministry, Adilur Rahman Khan, said on Saturday that the government would give utmost importance to ensuring gas supply to maintain normal production in the industries.

‘The problems in fertiliser production would be addressed to reduce import dependency, which would significantly save foreign currency,’ he said.

The adviser made the remark while talking to the reporters after participating in a two-hour meeting with senior officials of the ministry at the secretariat in the city.

Adilur also said work would be done to improve the leather industry in Savar and ensure environmental compliance in the ship-breaking industry.

He said the various institutions under the industries ministry were operating at a loss, and proper measures would be taken to identify the issues and make these institutions profitable.

‘There is no choice but to be strict against corruption. We have taken on this responsibility through much sacrifice. There is no question of allowing new corruption to occur,’ he added.
