The coordinators of Student Movement Against Discrimination on Saturday urged the civil and police administrations to work for the people instead of party favouritism.
‘All of you of both civil and police administrations have the blood of our brothers in your hands. Wherever you have done injustice, you have faced trial in independent Bangladesh. So, you must work for the people impartially instead of party favouritsm,’ said Golam Kibria Md Meshkat Chowdhury, one of the central coordinators of Student Movement Against Discrimination.
He came up with the call while addressing a discussion with Rajshahi district and police administrations in the conference room of the Rajshahi deputy commissioner office on Saturday noon.
‘We have not even held our victory procession yet. We are still in the streets. The immediate past autocratic government destroyed all the institutions. We want to create a state where there will be justice for everyone. All of you must come forward,’ he added.
Another coordinator Tasin Khan said that they risked everything to oust the autocratic government so that justice, equality, and human rights were ensured.
‘People have lost their faith in the current civil and police administrations. Now, it is the responsibility of civil and police administrations to bring back that faith in people.’ she said.
Another coordinator Masud Rana said that the civil and police administrations did not show the students any good work except following the wrongful orders of the different parties.
He also urged the district and police administrations not to deploy those officials who were involved in attacking and killing students.
Deputy commissioner Shameem Ahmed said that they undoubtedly had responsibility for the ongoing injustice and discrimination.
‘None of us can avoid this responsibility. If the hands of any policeman or official of the district administration are stained with blood, we will take disciplinary action against him provided that the complaint is proved based on specific allegations,’ he said.
Shameem Ahmed also urged the students to be careful so that no one could take away their victory.
He also assured all that the police would start their activities in full swing soon and they all would work to build Bangladesh together.
On behalf of the army, Lieutenant Colonel Shamim Masud Al Iftekhar said that various rumours had been spread through social media including that the army fixed prices of daily commodities.
‘We have not done anything as such. This is not correct,’ he said, urging everyone to build a better Bangladesh.
Among others, Rajshahi district police superintendent Saifur Rahman and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police special superintendent (city special branch) Muhd Abdur Rakib were present at the discussion.
Awami League president Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled to India on August 5 amid mass uprising spearheaded by student protesters bringing an end to her 15-year long regime.
