Newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed took oath of his office on Sunday.
President Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath of the chief justice at a ceremony at the Bangabhaban in the afternoon.
The president appointed High Court judge, Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, as the 26th chief justice of Bangladesh after his predecessor Obaidul Hassan resigned on Saturday afternoon amid mass movement of the students who demonstrated on the SC compound and the residence of the chief justice unless he submitted his resignation letter to the president.
Five other Appellate Division judge also resigned immediately after resignation of the Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan.
