Three people were killed by lightning strikes on Sunday in Thakurgaon amidst a wet spell bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

The deceased, Marina Begum, 45, and her daughter Sathi Aktar, 14, and Abdul Alim, were residents of Ranisankail of the district.


抖阴精品 correspondent in Thakurgaon reported that the deaths occurred in two separate incidents around noon when the victims were in work in rice field.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department warned that the ongoing wet spell was likely to continue for a while due to active monsoon.聽

In northern and some coastal districts, the BMD predicted rain in most places. Other places are also likely to experience rain in many places over the next week.

Bangladesh鈥檚 highest rainfall of 117mm was recorded in Sandwip in the 24 hours until 6:00pm on Sunday.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre on said that the Kushiyara River continued to flow above the danger mark at Amalshid for the third consecutive day but was on the falling trend.

Major rivers in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrakona districts may rise due to medium to heavy rainfall today, said the FFWC.

In the 24 hours until 9:00am, the FFWC said that Bangladesh鈥檚 highest maximum rainfall of 147mm was recorded in Sunamganj.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall continued in the upstream. Cherrapunji recorded 262mm of rainfall over the same reporting period.
