Two commissioners of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission resigned on Monday after Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam resigned as BSEC chairman on Sunday.

The two commissioners, Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Rumana Islam, sent their resignation letters to the official concerned at the finance ministry.


According to a circular issued by the Financial Institutions Division of the ministry, their letters of resignation were accepted.

With this, three of the five members of the BSEC commission resigned after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government of August 5.

BSEC commissioner Md Mohsin Chowdhury has been made acting chairman, a circular issued by the Financial Institutions Division said.

A professor of the finance department at the University of Dhaka, Shamsuddin was appointed as a commissioner to the BSEC in 2020 for his first term. He was appointed for another four-year term on May 8, 2024.

Rumana, a professor of law at the University of Dhaka, was appointed as a commissioner for a four-year term in May 2022. She was the first female commissioner of the BSEC.
