The home affairs adviser to the interim government, retired Brigadier General M Sakhawat Hossain, on Tuesday said that the days were gone for the Border Guard Bangladesh members to act cowardly on the border with India.
‘They [previous govt] had directed a force like BGB to show back on the border. They killed our people along the border and BGB were forced to hold flag meeting… I told them not to show back. Enough is enough. That days are over,’ said Sakhawat while briefing reporters after visiting Border Guard Hospital to see injured BGB members during the movement organised by Student Movement Against Discrimination.
He alleged that the Border Security Force of India killed people entering even into the Bangladesh territory.
‘They had turned forces, including police, Rapid Action Battalion and Ansar, into monsters. Thank God, they could not do the same for Bangladesh Army. We have restricted to do so,’ the home adviser said in an oblique reference to the ousted government led by Sheikh Hasina who recently fled to India for shelter amid a mass uprising spearheaded by student protests.
He said that the government would take those people to the international court who were involved in making the forces monsters.
‘National Force is not anyone’s personal…..I will try to bring them to justice at home and aboard however big fishes they may be. If they are caught in my hand, I will send them to jail,’ he said, adding that they had already taken some actions against them who made police force a monster.
Replying to a question that people did not witness any actions against the police officials involved in killings during the student movement, he said that it would be done but there was a government procedure.
‘The efforts are being underway to take actions against them following government procedure. We have already sent some recommendations to the honourable president in this regard. I will not disclose the names right now,’ he said, adding that it would be decided later whether they would be freed or not.
