Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit on Tuesday froze bank accounts of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former ICT minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and their family members.

The BFIU sent the instruction to all banks and financial institutions, asking them to freeze transactions for accounts held in the names of Asaduzzaman, his wife Lutful Tahmina Khan, Palak and his wife Arifa Jesmin for 30 days.

The order was issued under the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2019.

The BFIU also instructed banks and financial institutions to send account-related documents, such as account opening forms, KYC, and transaction details, within three working days of the notice.

On Monday, it froze bank accounts of former Awami League land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed and former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, and their wives.

On Sunday, the intelligence unit froze bank accounts of former foreign minister Mohammad Hasan Mahmud and his family members.

The series of accounts freezing of ministers under the Awami League government came after the fall of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister.

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled to India on August 5 amid a mass uprising spearheaded by students.
