The liaison committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Monday held a meeting with political student organisations at the auditorium of the Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Center.

The meeting started at around 7:30pm and continued until around 10:00pm, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.

Several issues, including student politics, the politics of Chhatra Shibir, and the rationality of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting was attended by representatives from 36 organisations, including the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Islami Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Union, Islami Chhatra Andolan, Bangladesh Khelafat Chhatra Majlis, Socialist Student Front, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, Biplobi Chhatra Sanghati, says a press release issued by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.

Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, two advisors to the interim government and coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, along with several other coordinators were present at that meeting.

Representatives of the liaison committee, including coordinator Mahfuz Alam, members Nasiruddin Patwari, and Ariful Islam Adib were also present at the meeting.

According to sources from the meeting, most organisations agreed that those who have fought against fascism would not engage in party politics on the Dhaka University campus now.

The organisations agreed that they would not attack each other on social media or on the streets, and that they would all work together for the cause of democracy.

No student will be allowed to use the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Movement to oppress, harass, threaten, or tag-blame anyone on campus or elsewhere, says the press release.

In the meeting it was also decided that, in order to confront all conspiracies, they would fight for at least one month or longer under the banner of this movement.

Their goal is to protect the spirit of the mass uprising and to resist all forms of counter-revolution. The press release reads.

Additionally, an unanimous decision was made not to observe August 15 as National Mourning Day. All the representatives of the student organisations present expressed their agreement with these decisions in writing.

One of the main topics of the meeting was to decide whether to keep or dissolve the banner of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’. Since the ongoing crisis has not yet been fully resolved, it was decided that the banner would remain active for now to work towards resolving the crisis.

Earlier On August 5, after the fall of the Hasina government, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement formed a Liaison Committee.

This committee was primarily formed to coordinate various issues between the government and the people as well as to present the students’ demands to the government.
