Members of the families of those killed during the quota reform movement on Wednesday held a human chain at the Central Shaheed Minar demanding trial of Sheikh Hasina and those who ordered the shooting during the movement.

The event was held at around 11:00am.

From the morning people from different parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, started gathering on the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar.

They appeared under the banner of families of martyrs and oppressed students and citizens.

From the human chain, the family members of the martyrs said that the then-government and police cold-bloodedly carried out genocide by shooting at the peaceful and justified student movement.

They emphasised that this genocide must be brought to justice soon, and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina must be held accountable for it.

They also demanded immediate arrest of all perpetrators involved in the killings and called for making a list of affected families to provide them with support.

Their other demands included bringing everyone involved in the genocide, including Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and all those military and civilian administrators involved, to justice through a special tribunal.

At the human chain, father of Hafizur Rahman, who was killed in Middle Badda, said, ‘Those murderers who cold-bloodedly planned and killed thousands of students like my son must be given the maximum punishment. Measures must be taken to alleviate our suffering.’

Sharmin Sultana, the sister of Jewel, who was killed in Shanir Akhra, said that Not only students but many working class people were also martyred in this movement.

‘Since the day after my brother’s death, I have been running from place to place for a death certificate at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. But the authorities are not releasing the post-mortem report,’ she said.
