The Border Guard Bangladesh on Wednesday arrested 13 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police while seeking shelter to Bangladesh after crossing the international border amid the country’s on-going conflict.

In a press release, the commanding officer of Teknaf-2 BGB battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, said that 13 BGP members were detained by the BGB while crossing the border illegally.

‘They have been taken into safe custody under the supervision of the BGB,’ he added.

The official said that 123 BGP members, including 110 previously detained, would be handed over to the Myanmar representative.

The foreign ministry in a press release issued on June 9 said that Bangladesh had so far sent 752 BGP and other members, who took shelter on a humanitarian ground.
