The government will bear all the treatment expenses of the people injured in the recent student-led mass protests that overthrew former prime minister Sheikh Hasina from power.
The health ministry on Saturday issued a press release declaring that all those taking treatment either at public or private hospitals will receive the treatment for free.
The ministry also has formed a committee to inquire about those who sustained injuries during the movement, said the release.
The committee would meet on Sunday to determine the next course of action, it said.
The health division requested all private medical college hospitals, private hospitals and clinics not to charge fees for the treatment of those injured in the student movement against discrimination.
‘If necessary, the government will bear all the bills of the students and people undergoing treatment in these private hospitals,’ it said.
Meanwhile, decision has been taken to form separate specialised dedicated care units for the people injured in the movement, who were undergoing treatment in public hospitals across the country to ensure better treatment for them.
The decisions were taken in a meeting between the coordinators of the movement and the
Directorate General of Health Services held at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Additional director general of the directorate Professor Ahmedul Kabir, Dhaka Medical director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman and coordinators Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah were present, among others, at the meeting.
On Thursday, health adviser Nurjahan Begum visited the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, and told reporters that the government would bear all the medical expenses of the injured.
